One Piece: All 9 Blades Wielded By Roronoa Zoro

Roronoa Zoro is the Combatant of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of the strongest people on the crew, second only to Monkey D. Luffy. Zoro aims to become the strongest swordsman in the world of One Piece and, therefore, has made it his goal to defeat Dracule Mihawk, the man who currently holds that title.

Being a master swordsman, Roronoa Zoro has wielded a bunch of different blades in One Piece. Some of these weapons have been in his possession for several years, whereas others were with him for mere moments. That said, Roronoa adapts his combat style according to the sword in his hand, making him a rather dangerous opponent.

Updated on February 22, 2023 by Ajay Aravind: One Piece remains a masterclass in Shonen anime, despite the formidable number of episodes in its canon. Likewise, Roronoa Zoro is yet to experience the slightest decline in his popularity. As such, we’ve revamped this list with more information about his character’s legendary swordsmanship.

9 Dual Katana

One Piece Roronoa Zoro — Dual Swords

Roronoa Zoro has always been a proponent of the famous Santoryu, also known as the Three-Sword style. Having received the Wado Ichimonji from Koshiro, Zoro still needed two more swords to complete the figure. As a result, Zoro initially relied on a dual katana system for combat.

However, both these blades ended up breaking in his fight with Dracule Mihawk. Since the Wado Ichimonji was an O Wazamono-grade sword, it was able to withstand the severe blow delivered by Mihawk. Technically speaking, these two katanas are inconsequential at best.

8 Johnny And Yosaku’s Swords

Zoro vs Hachi in One Piece

After losing his swords to Mihawk, Zoro was forced to find a quick replacement in order to pull off the Santoryu. When the crew was busy fighting at Arlong Park, Zoro temporarily borrowed Johnny and Yosaku’s blades. These two weapons are more commonly known as the Nakiri swords.

He was seen using these swords against Hachi. Although Zoro did struggle for a short while against the Octopus Fishman, it was because the wound that Mihawk gave him was still fresh. As a result of Zoro’s carelessness, the wound ended up opening during this battle.

7 Wado Ichimonji

One Piece Roronoa Zoro — Wado Ichimonji

Zoro originally received the Wado Ichjimonji from Koshiro. Initially, this sword was supposed to be passed down to Kuina, a girl at Zoro’s dojo who defeated him 2001 times. Due to her untimely death, Zoro took possession of the Wado Ichimonji instead. In doing so, he also promised to become the greatest swordsman in the world.

To date, Roronoa Zoro still bears this sword, and it’s likely that he’ll carry it right until the day he eventually defeats Dracule Mihawk. Although Zoro’s control over Wado Ichimonji’s powers grew magnificently over the time-skip, there’s no doubt that his level of mastery will increase even further after the events of Wano Country.

6 Yubashiri

One of Roronoa Zoro’s first few named swords, the Yubashiri was gifted to him by Ipponmatsu who was impressed by his courage during the Logue Town arc. As a Ryo Wazamono-grade sword, Yubashiri was an extremely powerful weapon, even if not among the finest in the series.

Yubashiri seems to be a rather obedient sword, unlike a few others that Zoro has wielded. Unfortunately, Yubashiri ended up getting destroyed by Shu, a Captain of the Navy, during the Buster Call at Enies Lobby. Zoro paid tribute to the sword after the events of the Thriller Bark arc and subsequently replaced the Yubashiri with another blade.

5 Sandai Kitetsu

One Piece Roronoa Zoro — Sandai Kitetsu

The Sandai Kitetsu is another one of Zoro’s powerful blades that he picked up at Logue Town. However, unlike Yubashiri, Sandai Kitetsu is a lower-grade sword. Compared to Yubashiri, this sword is particularly hard to master, at least according to Roronoa himself.

This is likely because the Sandai Kitetsu is a cursed blade, descended from the family of the Cursed Kitetsu swords. However, it doesn’t take him too long to assert his authority over it. Zoro continues to wield this sword, and has been exploiting its bloodlusted ability to slice through anyone standing in his way.

4 Shusui

One Piece Roronoa Zoro — Shusui

One of the strongest known swords in the entire One Piece series, Shusui was once wielded by the famous samurai Shimotsuki Ryuma. After his death, both the sword and Ryuma’s corpse were stolen by Moria, who later used it to strengthen his army.

Upon clashing with Roronoa Zoro, Ryuma was impressed by his valor and ended up gifting the Shusui to him. The Shusui is an O Wazamono-grade sword, making it extremely rare. What’s more, it is classified as a Kokuto (black blade), explaining why it’s so much more powerful than a regular sword.

3 Seppuku Blade

One Piece Roronoa Zoro — Seppuku

Roronoa Zoro found himself in trouble moments into the Wano Country arc where he was framed for murder. Asked to kill himself by committing Seppuku, Zoro was given a short blade without a tanto. As expected, instead of killing himself, Zoro used this blade to slaughter everyone in his path, including the actual culprit: the magistrate.

Zoro’s control over this Seppuku blade was magnificent, despite it being very short and hard to handle. He could even use Haki on this blade, further strengthening its powers. That said, Seppuku swords have limited applicability and aren’t really beneficial in terms of battle.

2 Kamazo’s Scythe

One Piece Roronoa Zoro Kamazo's Scythe

Once again, Zoro found himself one sword short in the Wano Country arc when Gyukimaru stole Shusui from him. While trying to get his sword back, Zoro was intercepted by a man known as Kamazo the Manslayer, who later turned out to be none other than the Killer of the Kid Pirates.

To finish him off, Zoro took possession of one of Kamazo’s scythes and used it to perform a purgatory Onigiri, ultimately slicing through his enemy. However, Zoro lost too much blood during the fight and ended up passing out in the process.

1 Enma

One Piece Roronoa Zoro — Enma

Enma once belonged to the legendary Samurai Kozuki Oden. After his death, his blades were bequeathed to his children. Kozuki Momonosuke received Ame no Habakiri, whereas Kozuki Hiyori got Enma, which she later passed on to Roronoa Zoro, who had just returned Shusui to Wano Country.

Enma is an extremely potent sword, and one that very few people are capable of wielding. This sword has a habit of drawing out all the Haki from the user’s body. Consequently, the slashes emitted by this sword are much more powerful than intended. Zoro has been training to achieve perfect control over Enma and seems to have pulled it off quite well.
