Una rescatista local en Fort Smith, Arkansas, estaba liberando a una gata salvaje recién esterilizada cuando escuchó pequeños gritos provenientes del bosque.

Buscó y buscó hasta que finalmente encontró la fuente de los gritos.

Ayudar a los desesperanzados

Jen es la fundadora de Jen’s Kitty Rehab, una organización sin fines de lucro comprometida con el rescate de gatos y gatitos en Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Una gran parte de la misión de Jen es alentar y practicar TNR (atrapar, castrar, devolver) para gatos salvajes.

A principios de este año, varios gatos negros salvajes con pelaje largo comenzaron a aparecer en su colonia de gatos TNR en busca de comida.

De hecho, ¡eran tantos que empezó a confundirlos entre sí!

Un invitado misterioso

Dado que los gatos se parecían tanto, era difícil saber qué gatos estaban arreglados y cuáles no.

Los gatos recibieron puntas para los oídos una vez que se arreglaron, por lo tanto, Jen pudo determinar quién ya estaba arreglado cuando pudo ver más de cerca.

Un día, Jen vio otro gato negro con pelaje largo y supuso que podría ser uno que ya había arreglado.

“Me acerqué y no había punta en la oreja”, dijo Jen. “Dije ‘tenemos otro gato negro de pelo largo'”.

Pero primero, este hermoso gato negro necesitaba un nombre. Jen la llamó Tresey.

Sabiendo que esta gata necesitaba ser esterilizada con urgencia, la engatusó para que cayera en una trampa humana y la llevó al veterinario.

¡Poco sabía ella que esta gata tenía un gran secreto que estaba escondiendo!

Una falsa alerta

Después de la cirugía, el veterinario le informó a Jen que esta gata había tenido gatitos recientemente.

A Jen le preocupaba haberle quitado accidentalmente a la madre a los gatitos demasiado pronto.

“Me consoló que el veterinario dijera que los gatitos habían sido destetados recientemente y que el suministro de leche de la madre casi se había agotado”, dijo Jen.

Feliz de saber que los gatitos no necesitaban a su madre para comer, Jen regresó a casa para ayudar a Tresey a recuperarse.

Las cosas buenas vienen en paquetes pequeños

Once Tresey had healed from her surgery, Jen released her back into the colony.

Jen went back later that night to make sure Tresey was doing okay.

While she was there, she heard kitten cries coming from the woods!

“I shined my flashlight in the woods and called for whatever I heard crying,” Jen said. “One little fluff ball waddled out and I managed to pick her up while she was eating!”

Jen immediately whisked away the kitten to a safe location while she waited to see the vet.

Jen was happy to have found one of Tresey’s kittens!

After finding this kitten, Jen and her family returned to the colony and searched day and night for other kittens.

They returned empty handed. It’s very possible this puffy black kitten was the only one Tresey had.

While adult feral cats can fend for themselves, feral kittens have a much harder time surviving.

In fact, the chances of this kitten surviving on her own were slim.

Since she had recently been weaned, her mom wouldn’t be protecting or providing for her much longer.

This would have left the kitten hungry and vulnerable all alone in the woods.

Fluffy, Puffy, And Fussy

Because of her thick and luscious coat, Jen and her daughter named the kitten Fluffy.

Jen rescuing Fluffy was the best thing that ever happened to her, but she didn’t know it yet!

“I felt very bad taking her away from her mom,” Jen said. “She was very angry when I first took her.”

It didn’t take long for her to warm up to her rescuers, though.

After a few days of bribing her with tasty treats and snacks, the Fluffy realized she was in a much better place.

Happily Ever After

Fluffy’s initial fussiness faded quickly once she saw how great Jen and her family were.
